The Emmy Awards have been awarded annually since 1949 by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences to honor excellence in television; they are considered to be the television equivalent to the Academy Awards.[1] House has been nominated for Primetime Emmy Awards,[2] which are awarded to honor excellence in acting and writing in primetime television,[3] as well as Creative Arts Emmys,[4] which are presented in recognition of technical and other related areas in American television programming.[5]
After its first season run in 2005, House received five Emmy Award nominations, of which three were for Creative Arts Emmys.[2] It failed to gain a nomination for Outstanding Drama Series but did, however, win the award for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series.[6] The following year the show was nominated for four Emmys including Outstanding Drama Series,[7] however, House failed to win any Emmy Awards that year, with the award for Outstanding Drama Series being won by 24.[8] In 2007 the show received four nominations,[4] and won a creative arts emmy for make-up.[9] The following year, at the 60th Primetime Emmy Awards, the show, again, received four nominations.[10] Within these four nominations was a nomination for Outstanding Drama Series, for the episode "Frozen", Katie Jacobs and David Shore initially wanted to submit "House's Head" for consideration, but submitted "Frozen" because, as Jacobs explained, "House's Head" was a "fun piece of TV" for the viewers, but she and Shore were not sure it would have been embraced by the academy.[11] The show only won one Primetime Emmy Award that year, which was for director Greg Yaitanes, who won the emmy for Outstanding Directing in a Drama Series for directing "House's Head".[12] Hugh Laurie, who portrays the title character has been nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for every season except the second, but has never won the award.[13]

Lupus Foundation, for raising awareness for Lupus, a disease mentioned frequently on the show.[69] The American Film Institute selected the show as one of the best shows of 2005, the judges stated "House has redefined the medical television show. No longer a world where an idealized doctor has all the answers or a hospital where gurneys race down the hallways, House's focus is on the pharmacological—and the intellectual demands of being a doctor. The trial-and-error of new medicine skillfully expands the show beyond the format of a classic procedural, and at the show's heart, a brilliant but flawed physician is doling out the prescriptions—a fitting symbol for modern medicine".[70]
